Suicide is thought to be a solution to a problem. Problem of emotion.

Where to next?

Looking at existing solutions and how could I better that existing format.
Campaigning, but would people listen?

Week 1 (second half)

For week 1 we had Toby Morris speak to our pastoral group about his experiences as a designer and how his failures became his biggest success. We also had our compass map which helped up the direction of the next half our our project. We discussed the 'what' and 'why' of my project. Through the holiday I had done a lot of thinking, doing and discussing the direction of my project and it is coming close to a solution. I went around the community and gathered information of places where I could use to paint on murals .

Week 8

This week we looked into how we might want to approach our project in the dossier and the layout of the dossier. I talked to Lee Jensen about my project and how I could approach. He had given me really good direction to look at and for me to do more research. I had looked at family disconnection and acceptance of the new era by the old pacific/maori tradition and also the christianity faith. People find it hard to accept change and want to withhold what they believe in and what they know. Lee suggested designing a story or an illustrated book. Suicide is kinda heavy and it  is about finding that gap which I could use to approach the topic a different way. Accepting that the whole process of suicide and to solve this issue is complicated. Even raising more awareness is difficult due to the law of the media. The whole issue is complicated. The next step is maybe designing a series of posters or whatever. maybe a book, but also looking out to how other countries deal with the issu...

Week 3

This week we had a critique on where abouts our projects were heading and if we were headed the right direction. I did kinda struggle to find an issue or just a theme to base my design project around but I have come up with a theme which is suicide awareness. It is a hard topic to talk about but I believe as a Polynesian in NZ, we need to talk about it. It is destroying families and wasting lives. I was advised to be more specific with my audience and find a way to get the message across to kids and teens in low decile communities.  Audience: 13 to 19 and mostly highschool kids. Why am I doing this project? Purpose? It is important for people to care about the lives of the children of Aotearoa and to care about the reputation of our country. NZ has the highest number of suicides for a developed country. There are campaigns out there that people don't know about but I want people of NZ to know that suicide is an existing monster that lives among our children. ...
